How to Obtain a Georgia Insurance License
The State of Georgia requires insurance producers, subagents, adjusters, public adjusters, and counselors to hold a license. This guide outlines the step-by-step process to obtain your Georgia insurance license.
Step 1: Fulfill Prelicensing Education Requirements
Before taking the state licensing exam, you must complete a prelicensing education course approved by the Georgia Office of Insurance. The required hours vary based on the line of authority:

Certification Exam & Completion Certificate:

- Upon passing, you’ll receive a Certificate of Completion, valid for one year.
- The certificate must be submitted with your Georgia license application.
Step 2: Schedule and Pass the Licensing Exam
Once you complete your prelicensing education, you must pass the Georgia state insurance licensing exam.
Exam Details:
- Register through Pearson VUE at www.pearsonvue.com or call (800) 274-0488.
- Exams are multiple-choice and require a 70% or higher to pass.
- A valid government-issued photo ID is required for testing.
- Exams must be taken in-person at Pearson VUE testing centers. Remote exams are no longer available as of May 2024.
- If you fail, you may reschedule immediately.

Step 3: Complete the Citizenship Affidavit
After passing the exam, Georgia requires all applicants to submit a Citizenship Affidavit:
- The form must be notarized.
- A copy of proof of citizenship must be included.
- Upload the documents during or immediately after submitting your license application.
Step 4: Apply for Your Insurance License
After passing your exam, you can apply for your license online through Sircon or NIPR.
Application Process:
- Visit www.nipr.com or www.sircon.com.
- Pay the required application fee.
- The Georgia Office of Insurance processes applications within a few business days.
- Once approved, you can verify and print your license from the Georgia Insurance Department website.
Step 5: Complete Fingerprinting

Step 6: Maintain Your License with Continuing Education (CE)
